What this tool does

Bulk Image Tagger supports the two ways people use the word tag. Embedded metadata writes standard XMP keywords into the image without changing its pixels. Mobile-visible labels create a new PNG copy with the tags printed in a readable caption strip, which is the dependable option when a phone gallery ignores metadata keywords.

Why use it

When screenshots come from several sites, adding the same label one image at a time is slow and easy to get wrong. Bulk Image Tagger applies one set of labels to a whole batch while keeping the files on your device. It also separates portable metadata from visible labels, because many mobile gallery apps do not display embedded keywords.

The embedded mode is useful for image cataloguing tools that understand XMP or IPTC metadata. The mobile-visible mode is useful when the label must be readable in any gallery app, messaging app, or file preview, even if that app ignores metadata.

How it works under the hood

Embedded mode detects JPEG, PNG, and WebP containers and inserts or replaces an XMP packet containing one dc:subject item for each tag. The compressed image payload is copied byte-for-byte, so the image is not re-encoded. Existing XMP subject values can be appended to or replaced.

Mobile-visible mode draws the tags into a caption strip below the source image and exports a new PNG. This mode changes the pixels by design, but the result is visible in applications that do not read image metadata. Both modes run locally in the browser.

Tips and best practices

Use short, consistent tags such as dashboard, checkout, landing page, or mobile. Enter one phrase per line when a tag contains spaces. Choose Embedded metadata when you need the original pixels unchanged. Choose Mobile-visible labels when the tags must be visible in a phone gallery.

The original files are never overwritten. After processing, verify the output in the target phone gallery before processing a large archive, because Android gallery applications do not all support custom metadata keywords in the same way.

Browser tool vs alternatives

Desktop photo managers can batch-edit keywords, but they require installation and are usually built around a full photo library. FFmpeg is designed for audio/video processing and is not the right tool for format-aware image keyword editing. This browser tool works on iPhone, Android, Windows, and macOS without uploading the images or installing software.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will tags appear in every Android gallery?

Embedded metadata is portable, but Android gallery apps do not share one keyword standard. Choose Mobile-visible labels when the tags must be visible everywhere.

What is the difference between the two modes?

Embedded metadata preserves the image pixels and writes XMP keywords. Mobile-visible labels create a new PNG with a readable tag strip drawn below the image.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The files are read and processed locally in your browser and are never sent to our servers.

Does this use FFmpeg?

No. FFmpeg is not needed for metadata editing. The metadata mode edits the image container bytes directly, while the visible mode uses a local browser canvas.
